About the Junior Australian Youth Band
In 2011, AYB entered an exciting new era with the establishment of a training band. Players of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments with a minimum standard of AMEB Grade 2 are invited to join the Junior Australian Youth Band (JAYB).
It is expected that these young performers will work hard during their time in JAYB, increasing both their musicianship and level of performance, with a view to moving up to the senior ensemble when they have reached the required standard of AMEB 5 or equivalent.
Each year, JAYB performs a repertoire of challenging and fun pieces at the AYB Annual Concert. The chosen repertoire helps members to develop key skills in music reading, musicianship and sense of ensemble. JAYB members will also learn the skills of marching and memorising music, in preparation for the many marching performances on the AYB calendar.
Ethan Doe is currently serving as the Musical Director of JAYB.
